Bcon Medical is developing state-of-the-art navigation solutions to visualize the patient-specific 3D anatomy of the target area and aid the localization of lesions and critical anatomical structures during oncologic surgery.
In more than 20% of the surgically treated cancer patients, surgery is inadequate. While pre-operative imaging gives detailed information, during surgery tumor tissue is often difficult to identify. As a result, either surgical resection margins still show tumor cells or too much healthy tissue is removed or damaged. This can result in tumor recurrence, or complications such as urinary incontinence or sexual dysfunction. Through navigation, Bcon Medical aims to aid surgeons in improving radical tumor removal while minimizing complications.
